The Best Pizza on Hilton Head Island & Bluffton: Ranked S to Skip
Wood-fired Neapolitan, NY-style slices, late-night takeout, and the only Detroit-square pop-up on the island. 13 spots ranked by a local.
Pizza on Hilton Head used to mean a flabby NY slice from a strip mall. The last five years changed that. We got a true 800°F wood-fired Neapolitan, a Calabrian-Italian thin crust, a Detroit-square pop-up, and a 2024 chef-driven coastal-Italian room across the bridge in Bluffton. The strip-mall slice is still around — but it's no longer the only option.
This is the working tier list. 13 spots from Hilton Head Island and the immediate Bluffton/Lowcountry area, ranked from S (the absolute best) to Skip (popular but overrated). Built from local-blog reviews, Tripadvisor signal, the We Love Hilton Head Island Facebook group, and what we actually order on a Friday night.
How we ranked
Three filters, in order: 1) the dough — is it made fresh, does it taste like more than salt and yeast? 2) the bake — properly leoparded char on a Neapolitan, crispy bottom on a NY pie, no soggy crusts. 3) consistency — does it deliver the same pie on a Tuesday in February as a Saturday in July? A spot that nails one and fails another doesn't make S-tier.
- 01
Local Pie Wood Fired Pizza
South End · Wood-fired NeapolitanThe first and only true 800°F wood-fired Neapolitan operation on the island. Regionally sourced mozzarella, San Marzano sauce, and the kind of leoparded char you'd expect from a Naples-trained kitchen. Sister location at 15 State of Mind St in Bluffton.
- 02
Dough Boys Pizza
South End · NY-style hand-tossedTripadvisor's #1 pizza on Hilton Head since 2013. Organic spring-wheat dough made fresh daily, San Marzano sauce, and a decade-plus of consistency. Island-wide delivery. The default order is the classic cheese.
- 03
Joelle
Old Town Bluffton · Coastal Italian + wood-firedA 2024 opening from a chef couple in Old Town Bluffton. The Local Palate and Post and Courier both raved in their first-look reviews. Wood-fired pies anchor a coastal-Italian menu with house-made pasta sides — best treated as a full date-night dinner.
- 01
Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta
Shelter Cove · NY-style + pubOpen since 1984 and the original SERG Restaurant Group concept. NY-style pies plus a full pasta menu. Big-group friendly and the family-room standard for Mid-Island. Locals reflexively recommend it.
- 02
Pomodori
South End + Old Town Bluffton · Calabrian thin crustChef Amanda trained in Calabria and brought regional thin-crust pies to two locations. Phone-only orders, no online platform — call early on Friday because the Calabrian chili honey pie sells out. Closed Sundays.
- 03
Firemost Pizza
Broad Creek Marina · Tavern thin-and-crispyFounded July 2025 by HHI locals and already pulling regulars away from the chains. Square-cut tavern pies, marina patio seating, and a sunset view that makes it the right Friday call.
- 04

- 02
Mellow Mushroom

- 03
TJ's Take & Bake Pizza Co.

- 04
Mangiamo's Hilton Head Pizza Co.
Main St + Bluffton · NY-style deliveryTwo locations and reliable island-wide delivery. The cheese-slice-and-wings combo is the workhorse. Not a destination, but a dependable backup when the S-tier spots are slammed.
- 01
Bella Italia
Port Royal Plaza · Italian-AmericanTripadvisor #4 mostly on tourist volume. Locals on the We Love HHI Facebook group rate it middling. Specialty and gluten-free pies are competent but unremarkable. Drive five more minutes to Dough Boys or Local Pie.
- 02
Fat Baby's Pizza & Subs
South End · Thin-crust counterTripadvisor ranks it #2 on the island, but reviews skew "fine, fast, forgettable." If you're already there and starving, fine. If you can drive five more minutes — do that instead.
Notes for visitors
Late-night pizza on Hilton Head
Mellow Mushroom on Office Park Rd is open until 11pm seven days, the latest pizza on HHI proper. New York City Pizza on Pope Avenue runs until 10pm Friday and Saturday for slice-by-the-counter orders. Everything else closes by 9pm in summer and 8pm off-season.
Pizza delivery to vacation rentals
Dough Boys, Mangiamo's, and Mellow Mushroom all deliver island-wide. TJ's Take & Bake delivers raw pies you finish in your villa oven — useful when you want pizza without leaving the rental and the oven is already preheating.
Best pizza for kids
Giuseppi's at Shelter Cove is the family-room standard — NY-style pies, pasta on the menu, and big-group seating. Dough Boys works for takeout family dinners. Skip the wood-fired Neapolitan for picky eaters; the slight char and fresh basil are not what 7-year-olds want.
- What is the #1 pizza on Hilton Head Island?
- By Tripadvisor signal, Dough Boys Pizza on the South End. By local-blog and chef-credentials signal, Local Pie Wood Fired Pizza is the most-acclaimed. Both are S-tier on our list.
- Where do locals get pizza on Hilton Head?
- Locals lean Local Pie for date-night Neapolitan, Dough Boys for the standard takeout cheese pie, Pomodori when they want something different, and Giuseppi's when they have kids in the car. The We Love Hilton Head Island Facebook group has a long-running pizza thread that surfaces the same names.
- Is there pizza in Bluffton?
- Yes — and it's worth crossing the bridge. Joelle (S-tier), Pomodori's Bluffton location (A-tier), and School Pizza's biweekly pop-up all give Bluffton three serious options. Joelle alone is worth the 25-minute drive from Sea Pines.
- Where can I get gluten-free pizza on Hilton Head?
- Bella Italia, Mellow Mushroom, and Mangiamo's all offer gluten-free crusts. Local Pie does a wood-fired GF option on request. Call ahead in summer — the GF dough sometimes runs out by Friday night.
- Are there any 24-hour or very-late-night pizza places?
- No. Mellow Mushroom (11pm) and NYC Pizza on Pope (10pm Fri/Sat) are the latest. After that, Domino's delivery from Bluffton is technically the only option, and it's not worth ordering.
- Can I get pizza delivered to a Sea Pines villa?
- Yes. Dough Boys, Mellow Mushroom, and Mangiamo's all deliver into Sea Pines. Add a 15-20 minute pad to whatever ETA they quote — the gate adds time. NYC Pizza delivers via Toast on Pope Avenue.
